Country Song Roundup is an all-country radio show where you can listen to authentic country music. You won’t find many new-age “country” artists here; you will find artists like Willie Nelson, Hank Willams and Johnny Cash. It airs locally in the Bristol, TN/VA area at 100.1fm and globally through the Birthplace of Country Music website on Radio Bristol through music players and the mobile app. Radio Bristol also offers a network of channels showcasing the diversity of American roots music.
One of our favorite human beings and friends, Tom Netherland, hosts the show every Friday from 12 to 3 p.m. EST. Tom is our go-to guy for music history; the man is basically a walking library full of musical knowledge you didn’t even know existed. It’s somewhat intimidating, honestly. Tom started his career in radio back at his alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.
Country Song Roundup was named after a magazine that ran from 1949 to 2000, aptly named Country Song Roundup. Tom has had many guests over the years appearing on the show, but Jim Lauderdale, Dallas Wayne, and Marty Stewart have been some of his favorites. The most requested song over the years has been Hank Williams' "Your Cheating Heart," while the top three most requested artists have been Loretta Lynn, Gary Stewart, and Hank Williams. While those might be the most requested, Tom's favorites to feature are Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and, like everyone else, Hank Williams. Outside of the Appalachian Region, Country Song Roundup is very popular abroad, with countries like Estonia and Japan tuning in. Even California has been tuning in more and more.
Country Song Roundup isn't just a radio show; it's a tribute to the timeless spirit of authentic country music, bringing together fans from all corners of the world. Whether you're a lifelong fan of the genre or discovering it for the first time, Tom Netherland and his treasure trove of musical knowledge will keep you coming back for more. Tune in, kick back, and let the classics take you home.
